Do I keep my benefits on VTOS?
You retain all your existing benefits. If you are on Jobseekers Allowance or Benefit, your basic money will be transferred to your bank account from Kerry ETB instead of DSP.
If you are on another payment such as Illness Benefit, One Parent Family, Disability Allowance, Pension, etc., these will be paid in the usual way.
Learners retain any secondary benefits such as Fuel allowance etc.

Do I get extra money for attending VTOS?
You get a small meal allowance and travel allowance if you are more than 5km from the centre. If you are under 25 and are on an age reduced payment, this can be topped to €193 per week.

What about Childcare?
While on a VTOS programme, you qualify for a childcare place under the Childcare Education and Training Support programme (CETS). Once you begin the VTOS programme, you can request a letter verifying your attendance which you can present to the Childcare provider.

Are books and Materials free?
Books & calculators are provided on a loan basis for the duration of the course and are returned on completion of the course. Other necessary expendable materials are provided free of charge.

Can I work while on VTOS?
You can work part-time up to 20 hours per week with no loss of benefits provided it does not interfere with your attendance on the programme.

Is VTOS fulltime?
A typical day is from 9.30 – 3.30 though there may be some time off during the day if you are not doing all modules/subjects. The working terms are similar to secondary schools with the same Christmas, Easter and Summer Holidays and mid-term breaks.

Is there a canteen at the Centre?
At break time in the morning tea or coffee and biscuits are provided free of charge. There is also a tea or coffee facility at lunch time.
